A man charged with rape and sexual assault by a five-month-old baby has been awarded a bail in Alice Springs.
On Wednesday, Judge Greg Borchers gave the man's guarantor on the terms he handed his passport, stayed at Alice Springs, was equipped with an electronic surveillance bracelet and paid a $ 5000 security.
The charges relate to the death of baby Michael Smedley in Alice Springs on July 26, 2012 and was filed last week after a coronary investigation held on December 12, 2016.
In January 2017, Coroner Greg Cavanagh said that he believed that Michael Death could have been the result of a criminal offense and referred it to the police for investigation.
Michael was five months old when he died of serious brain injury while in the care of a family friend and his then boyfriend.
He died after being taken out of life support That afternoon he was found "not breathless and lukewarm" in his cot.
