Jail strike ‘unauthorised’: NSW government

Prison officers in Sydney's Long Bay Correctional Center have gone away from work, referring to unsafe working conditions, in a strike that the government says is both unauthorized and unnecessary.

Friday's industrial action comes in consultation with employees and unions that Corrective Services NSW introduces so-called benchmarking, but the NSW Public Service Association believes the process is only a fate for job cuts.

"We believe this unauthorized industrial act is unnecessary and inappropriate," a correspondent told the NSW spokeswoman in a statement adding that the case would be referred to the Industrial Relations Commission.
