Suspected Golden State ‘killer’ arrested after new book on case by comedian Patton Oswalt’s wife

The US police believe they may have captured the suspected "golden state killer" after four decades looking for him.

On Tuesday, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department arrested Joseph James DeAngelo Jr. for two murders, reported Fox 40.

The 72-year-old man, reported as a fired former police officer, is said to be linked to a dozen unresolved murders, 50 rapes and 120 home burglars, spanning more than a decade from the early 1970s.

] The assault comes months after the publication of a true crime book McNamara spent much of his career to investigate and write about the California rapist and the killer, but died before the book was released.

(McNamara was married to comedian Patton Oswalt, who worked to finish the book after her death.)

Oswalt was among the first people to tweeting about the possible arrest.

"If they really caught #GoldenStateKiller, I hope to visit him," Oswalt replied. "Not to gloat or gawk-to ask him the questions that (McNamara) wanted the answer in her letter to an old man at the end of #IllBeGoneInTheDark."

Book co-author Billy Jensen has also written several tweets about the possible arrest of the serial killer.

"If you've followed the Golden State Killer case, stay updated. We want a pretty big message," he wrote, adding: "Two hours of sleep, but an airport chocolate banana smoothie is going to get me through, What I hope will be a great day. #IllBeGoneInTheDark #GoldenStateKiller #intothelight. "

According to Sacremento Bee the man lived in Sacramento, California, and was identified after the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department & # 39; s renewed interest in the case and District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert.

The man, known as Golden State Killer, Original Night Stalker and Diamond Knot Killer, is believed to have killed at least 12 people, raped at least 50 victims and broken hundreds of homes.

"It is the most productive unresolved serial word case probably in modern history," District Attorney Schubert told Fox 40.

DeAngelo is allegedly held in Sacramento County Main Prison and is not entitled to bail, the Sacremento Bee reports.

Californian Jane Carson-Sandler was sexually assaulted by the knife point of a man who believed to be the Golden Assassin. Carson-Sandler, now living in South Carolina, told The Island Packet the newspaper the night she had been contacted by two detectives about the arrest of the rapist.

"I just found out this morning," she said. "I'm overwhelmed with joy. I've cried and stumble."
